Weiss/Weisslich 31e for glass and water by Peter Ablinger

In Ablinger's work, water is allowed to drop from sponges onto eight pitched glass tubes which are amplified. During the piece, the sponges are set up in four different patterns; low to high, middle to extremes, extremes to middle and high to low. Different melodies develope through the dripping rhythms. With special lighting, the drops make forms in the air which create sound when they fall on the tubes. It is like a mini waterfall in slow motion. The piece, around 25 minutes, brings together nature, chance and the human touch in an organic, meditative music.

I have yet to be able to make a recording of this piece the way I imagine it should be done. In the meantime please accept this reduced rough draft version in order to get an idea of this special work.

Peter and I have twice done a program of different pieces of his in art galleries in Berlingen, Switzerland and Burgrieden-Rot in southern Germany. Below he is preparing his piece for 12 tape recorders for the concert in Berlingen.
